Why it was built that way

The core bet is that a contractor will describe a job in plain language faster than they will fill in a form, so the input is a text box and the structure is inferred. Getting that wrong would have made the tool slower than a spreadsheet.

Why it was built that way

Thrift stock is one-of-one: every listing is a single physical item that is gone once it sells. That rules out the quantity, restock and variant assumptions a standard e-commerce template is built on.

Research tools are judged on how fast the first useful result appears. The interface leads with search rather than with a dashboard of features — harder to demo in a screenshot, faster to actually use.

Billing and inventory were kept in one system rather than integrated across two, because reconciliation between separate tools is where small businesses lose money. One database means stock and invoices can never disagree.

Why it was built that way

An exam platform serves two opposed users on the same content: teachers authoring and scheduling, students sitting and being graded. The product is split along that line rather than pushing both through one dashboard.
